The founder and Executive Director of Katuni Consult Group, Joakim Gundel has been announced Person of the Year 2015 by the Somali Institute for Peace Research.
Joakim Gundel is a renown Somali expert, who is passionate about Somalia and cares deeply about Somalia’s peace and development. With more than 2 decades of experience in the fields of research, evaluation, and documentation Joakim’s policy, strategy, political and security analysis are highly influential.
Joakim is a political analyst who specializes in complex emergencies, with a focus on Somalia. He has been conducting research and traveling in Somalia since 1998 and works as a freelance consultant for the UN and other international humanitarian agencies in Somalia. He also has a background in immigration work with the Danish Immigration Service. He is the author of many articles, reports and books including the 2006 report The predicament of the Oday commissioned by the Danish Refugee Council for which he did extensive field research traveling from northern to southern Somalia, meeting with traditional elders and ordinary Somalis.
Joakim has helped the world in developing a better understanding about Somalia. He is an individual who believes that a public informed with better research can make a difference in Somalia and its peace and prosperity. He is truly a Somali expert, advocate and researcher that needs to be heard by decision-makers and those that genuinely want help Somalia and its rebuilding.
