Study on Women’s Access to Justice and Security in Somalia

KATUNI has been contracted by UN Women Somalia to gather data on women’s experiences in accessing justice and security in three different areas of Somalia: Boocame and Tukaaraq (Sool Region, part of the self-declared Khatuumo State ), Garowe District in the Nugaal Region of Puntland State, and Kismayo District in the Lower Juba Region of Jubaland State. Within the target areas, the researchers will seek primary data, sourced through interviews with key female and male informants, as well as through focus group discussions. This will be followed by a multi-stakeholder approach and participants will include government representatives (local administration officials & security officers), civil-society organizations (women’s rights organizations), and NGOs, in addition to local women and young girls. Local traditional elders will also be consulted for their views on women in regards to justice and security.
